Is PTE reading easier than IELTS reading?

They are not comparable in the way the question assumes. IELTS reading is a standalone hour with a single reading mark; PTE reading is shorter texts inside an integrated-scoring system. Different tests, not different difficulties on one ladder.

Which PTE tasks does reading practice help most?

Re-order Paragraphs, multiple choice on a text, and the reading-only fill-in-the-blanks. Least of all the task that also scores writing.

What that means in practice

Pearson publishes a 23–30 minute range for the section rather than a fixed duration, and publishes no per-type item counts at all. PTE Academic is an integrated-skills test: "Reading and Writing: Fill in the Blanks" also scores writing, so part of a reading score is earned outside reading. Prompts run up to 300 words (150 for Re-order Paragraphs).

Reading is only part of it

This exam has reading in it, but not as a clean, separately scored passage-comprehension section. We can help with the reading ability it assumes. We cannot prepare you for the exam as a whole, and we will not say otherwise.

What integrated scoring does to your prep

On a single-skill paper, a weak reading score tells you to read more. On PTE, it might tell you that, or it might be pointing at spelling, at grammar in a fill-in-the-blanks response, or at how quickly you work. The diagnosis is genuinely harder, and treating a PTE reading score like an IELTS reading band leads people to train the wrong thing for weeks.

Pearson also publishes the section as a duration range rather than a fixed length, and does not publish per-type item counts, so an exact rehearsal plan is not something anyone can build honestly from the official material. This page prints the range and the task types with their source, and stops there.

Where reading practice genuinely helps

Re-order Paragraphs is a pure reading-structure task: it hands you a scrambled text and asks you to rebuild its logic. Multiple choice on a text and the reading-only fill-in-the-blanks reward exactly what daily reading builds — vocabulary met in context and comfort with academic register at speed. These are the parts where practice moves the number.

The prompts are short by exam standards, so training on very long passages alone is a poor match. Passages in the two-to-three-hundred-word range at your level, read daily with comprehension questions afterwards, are closer to the task.

The honest limit

We will not tell you LingoRead prepares you for PTE Academic. It trains the reading ability the reading tasks assume. The integrated tasks, the speaking-scored items and the machine-scoring behaviour all sit outside it, and anyone selling you full PTE preparation on the strength of reading practice is overstating what reading practice is.
