DELE B1 reading

Spain's official diploma, A1 to C2, valid for life. A2 is the language requirement for Spanish nationality; C1 or C2 for medical residency.

Official exam page

DELE is Spain’s official diploma and it does not expire — which is why people are willing to prepare for it properly rather than sit whatever is quickest. B1 is the working middle of the ladder: enough Spanish to handle real texts, not yet enough to be asked for opinion pieces at speed.

What that means in practice

Instituto Cervantes publishes the task and item counts per level but not a per-task question typology — the item formats live in the official Especificaciones and Modelo de examen PDFs linked from each level page.

Every figure on this page was checked against the awarding body on that date. Exam formats change; check the official page before you book.

How well reading practice fits this exam

A full reading section

Reading is a complete, separately scored section with real passages. Training it moves a number that appears on your result.

LingoRead trains reading. It does not prepare a speaking or writing paper, it does not mark free-text answers, and it does not issue or predict an official result.

What the reading paper is, and what we will not guess

Instituto Cervantes publishes the duration and the number of items for the reading paper at every level, and both are printed on this page with a link to the source. What it does not publish on those pages is a per-task question typology — the item formats live in the official Especificaciones and Modelo de examen PDFs. So this page tells you how long you have and how many items you face, and sends you to the official model paper for the shapes.

That is a deliberate limit. A preparation page that confidently lists five DELE B1 task types is either quoting the model paper without saying so or repeating another site. Either way you cannot check it, and on an exam where you pay per sitting that matters.

The preparation that transfers

At B1 the gap between candidates is usually reading speed and vocabulary breadth rather than grammar. Reading a short Spanish text every day at a level you can hold — then answering questions on it, then looking at the words you had to guess — closes both at once, and it is the only method that keeps working when the exam is months away.

LingoRead writes that daily Spanish passage at the level you are actually reading at, reads it aloud, translates any word you tap, and rebuilds looked-up words as review cards from the sentences they appeared in.

Honest scope

Reading is one paper of four. LingoRead does not prepare comprensión auditiva, expresión escrita or the oral exam, and it does not issue a DELE result. Separately: A2 is the level named for Spanish nationality, and that route also involves the CCSE test of constitutional and sociocultural knowledge, which is not a language exam and which no amount of reading practice prepares you for.
