DALF C1 reading

One document, one shot

With several short exercises, a bad start costs you a few marks. With one long document, misreading the writer’s position in the first third can contaminate every answer that follows. That is why DALF C1 rewards a reading habit built around holding an argument in mind — knowing not just what a paragraph says but what job it is doing.

The paper is marked out of 25 with the same per-paper floor as DELF, and FEI does not publish an item count for it. This page prints the published duration and marking with their source, and does not fill in what has not been published.

What C1 reading practice actually looks like

At C1 the vocabulary gap has usually closed enough that the bottleneck is structure: subordination, hedging, irony, and the French habit of stating a position by describing its opposite. The productive drill is to read an argumentative French text, summarise its thesis in one sentence without looking back, and then check.

A note on DALF C2

There is no DALF C2 reading page here, and that is deliberate: at C2 there is no separate reading paper to train for. Reading exists only as the input to a long written production task. Selling reading practice as C2 exam preparation would misdescribe the exam, so we do not.
