What "in your own words" changes
Multiple choice lets you recognise an answer. DSH makes you produce one, which means half-understanding a paragraph is no longer enough to score on it. The reading part is marked on completeness and appropriateness rather than on linguistic form — form is scored in the Wissenschaftssprachliche Strukturen component, which shares the same time block. Two different standards, one clock.
Answers are hand-marked by the university’s own examiners, so the number of items varies by site and no national item count exists. A graph or diagram may be attached to the text. No specialist subject knowledge is required — the text is chosen so that a competent reader from any field can follow it.
